“Denmark has some very strong cards on the table, because we have a solid life science sector and strong research environments at hospitals and universities – and experience working across many stakeholders in a complex healthcare system. This is already reflected in the fact that, in a European context, we are among the leaders in terms of the number of clinical trials per capita.”

What is the concrete value for professional communities, companies, and patients?

“The transition from research to treatment is often experienced as difficult. ATMP Denmark’s focus is to make that process easier. There should be a single point of entry when clinicians, researchers, and companies need knowledge, guidance, or collaboration. The goal is for more patients to benefit from the new treatments, which have great potential both in relation to serious and rare diseases and, in the longer term, potentially some of the major common diseases.”

How is Denmark working to put its mark on EU developments within advanced therapies?

“Much of the regulation and the long-term framework for advanced therapies is shaped at EU level. Ultimately, this affects how Denmark can ensure Danish patients access to the new treatments. That is why it is important that Denmark works actively and in a coordinated way to bring its experience and strengths into play, including by prioritizing being present where the tracks are laid for future EU cooperation on the development and clinical implementation of advanced therapies”.
